The ATM Research Consortium (ARC) provides ATM connectivity to several universities and research institutes in Southern California. Some of these organizations include Aerospace, ISI, UCLA, CalTech, UC Irvine, Harvey Mudd College, JPL and others. Several projects have been conducted by ARC collaborators in the areas of telemedicine, distributed processing, distance learning and multimedia.
A review of the ARC project will be presented, with specific results in the area of remote diagnosis of Alzheimers Disease and parallel processing of weather computation using the ARC network. In the first project image processing was conducted remotely to perform the automated diagnosis, and results were transmitted back over the ARC network. In the second project, a parallel processing algorithm was network enabled, and geographically remote resources were made to collaborate using ARC and the I-WAY networks.
Additional projects will be described as time permits.
