Colloquium: Towards Gigabit Networking

Colloquium organised by IEE Professional Groups
C3 (Information systems and networks) and
E7 (Telecommunication networks and services)
in association with the
IEE North Western Centre
with technical co-sponsorship by the
IEEE Communications Society Technical Committee on Gigabit Networking

Manchester Royal Infirmary
The Manchester Postgraduate Health Sciences Centre, UK

Tuesday, 21 May 1996

Scope

As the demand for ever increasing bandwidth intensifies, networks operating at gigabit rates are becoming a reality. This Colloquium will consider whether ATM based networks truly represent a generalised solution; the status of current and future ATM technology and associated network design; how existing networks, such as the Internet, will converge with ATM; the impact on end station performance and the new services made possible by such very high speed networks. The Colloquium will also feature live video presentations using the SuperJanet network.
